Lepperton is a small but busy little village that services the surrounding rural area and has its own primary school. There is a large presence from the chicken industry with hatcheries and broiler sheds.

History

The township was named after Lieutenant Colonel Maxwell Lepper of the 14th Regiment, one of the nine regiments to serve in the Taranaki wars. After he retired from the regiment, Lepper became the commander of the Taranaki military settlers and was allocated a block of land in the settlement. Later members of the family developed a well-known pedigree Jersey livestock stud

Lepperton is a small village in North Taranaki. It is approximately 6 km inland from Waitara township, 5 km west of the Waitara River, and 1 km east of State Highway 3A, which connects Inglewood to Waitara.

Lepperton Schools annual fundraiser is Lawn mower Racing which has become hugely popular and is attended by the whole community. All racing mowers are modified with special engines, their blades are removed and they're lowered. During the day there's usually about lawnmower 30 races with about 20 to 30 competitors coming from around Taranaki, the Bay of Plenty and Fielding
